At OpenDevEd, we partnered with eKitabu, Royal Kentalis, and the Busara Center for Behavioural Economics to support deaf learners in Rwanda, Malawi, and Kenya. Our contributions included an extensive review of global and regional evidence on deaf education and the development of an evidence library to organize key insights. Using DBIR, we helped design and refine interventions, ensuring they effectively foster sign-language-rich environments. We also adapted scaling frameworks to ensure sustainability in diverse contexts, improving access to quality education for deaf learners.
As part of the EdTech Hub, we explore the use of Design-Based Implementation Research (DBIR) to enhance Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with technology, supporting neurodivergent learners in Ghana. It focuses on developing digital screening tools to identify learners’ needs, creating curriculum-aligned intervention plans for literacy, numeracy, and behavioural goals, and strengthening teacher capacity through remote training on UDL-based instruction. By integrating technology with inclusive education, the initiative aims to improve learner outcomes and teaching practices.
We work across diverse educational landscapes to develop evidence-based solutions. Explore our initiatives on Inclusive Education:
